The Guides

  • Rob Casserley
Medical doctor, trekking & mountain guide. Former surgeon and now a GP/family doctor, with a special interest in altitude & expedition medicine. He’s summited Everest 7 times, including double summits in the spring of 2007 and 2010 (the first ever Western climber to have achieved this “double double”). He’s featured in Everest ER, a 5 part BBC1 documentary series about medicine and climbing on Everest and assisted Sir Ranulph Fiennes as physician, guide and cameraman in his 2008 attempt at climbing the mountain. He’s also summited Cho Oyu twice(6th highest mountain in the world), Manasalu (8th highest mountain in the world), Denali twice, Ama Dablam and multiple summits of Island Peak, amongst others. In 2010 he rowed 2900 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in a 23ft rowing boat. Speaks English, French and workable Spanish.
  • Kevin Vann
Critical Care/ICU/Trauma Registered Nurse and trekking guide. Graduate of the Arizona Heart Institute and specializing in cardiovascular medicine. He’s summited Everest with Rob and Ang Nuru in 2003, summited Cho Oyu in Tibet, Aconcagua in Argentina, Kilimanjaro in Africa, numerous mountains in Bolivia, Denali (with Rob) in Alaska, and is currently pursuing his quest to climb the “Seven Summits”, the highest mountain on all 7 continents(5 down,2 remaining). He is the first person to ever canoe the entire lenght of the Duck River in Tennessee (268.5 miles…solo)!
  • Ang Nuru Sherpa
Climbing & trekking Sherpa. He’s summited Everest 3 times (once without oxygen), Cho Oyu multiple times and Ama Dablam. He is a truly amazing human-being. Strong, intelligent, funny, and kind; he’s a multi-lingual (Sherpa, Nepali, English and he’ll have a go at French, Spanish and Japanese too!), father of two and resident of Pangboche – the heart of the Khumbu Valley. He came 3rd in the 2003 Everest marathon, completing it in 4hrs 21 mins, a feat that Rob and Kev still find hard to phathom, bearing in mind that the race started at Everest Base Camp (5364m/17,58ft) and finished in Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,286ft)! He is our connection to the Sherpas, helping to give you a truly memorable and authentic experience. He’s the real deal!
